ELLIS HUNT

PRESIDENT, HUNT BROTHERS, LAKE WALES

Hunt, with a bachelor’s degree from Stetson University, is a third-generation citrus grower and has spent his entire 35-year career in the industry. His firm operates groves and a packinghouse. Hunt’s grandfather and his brothers started the company in 1922. Hunt is the chairman of the Florida Citrus Commission, a nine-member board representing growers, processors and packers that oversees the Florida Department of Citrus, an executive agency of the Florida government charged with the marketing, research and regulation of the Florida citrus industry. He is president of the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Citrus Research Education Foundation, vice president of Polk County Farm Bureau and board member of the Lake Wales Chamber of Commerce. He has served as chairman of the planning commission for Polk County and president of the Polk County Taxpayers League. Growing oranges, he says, “is what I know and love. We love to preserve the water and land so the next generations can continue.”
