GENE LOLLIS

RANCH MANAGER, ARCHBOLD BUCK ISLAND RANCH, VENUS (HIGHLANDS COUNTY)

Buck Island Ranch’s parent company was founded by Richard Archbold nearly 80 years ago to study and conserve the Lake Wales Ridge, a scrub habitat that includes plants and animals that exist nowhere else in the world. In 2018, Archbold purchased Buck Island Ranch from the MacArthur Foundation to further Archbold’s mission.

A sixth-generation Floridian, Lollis has been with Archbold for 28 years. He grew up in St. Cloud and as a boy worked in the area’s orange groves and cattle ranches.

He is president of the Florida Cattlemen’s Association. During the pandemic, he says, he, his wife and other area ranchers “started selling our Florida cattle ranchers beef products at local farmers markets.”
