JOHN KELLY

PRESIDENT, FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY, BOCA RATON

FAU has an enrollment of more than 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students on six sites and employs more than 3,000. Last year, FAU was ranked No. 136 nationally by U.S. News & World Report. Kelly, who has been president since 2014, says he was planning to start his own business after college graduation but an academic adviser talked him into continuing his education.

EDUCATION Clemson University (BS), Ohio State University (MS, Ph.D.)
SOMETHING SURPRISING In spite of my busy schedule, I’m a devoted family man. One of my favorite pastimes is watching movies with my wife, Carolyn, and our 7-year-old daughter, Stella.
FLORIDA LOVE Even though my job is mostly indoors, I thoroughly enjoy long walks outdoors. Florida weather makes that feasible year round.
ADMIRES I truly admire the Best Foot Forward Foundation, which is changing the lives of foster care youth in our community.
