EUGENE E. STEARNS
CHAIRMAN, STEARNS WEAVER MILLER WEISSLER ALHADEFF & SITTERSON, MIAMI
Stearns’ areas of practice include complex disputes involving the purchase and sale of securities, intellectual property rights, libel law, insurance coverage, construction, development and constitutional issues.
One of his most notable trial victories was as lead counsel in a class-action suit against Exxon on behalf of 11,000 station owners. They won a $1.1-billion verdict against the company, making it the largest compensatory damage award by a Florida jury at the time. Stearns litigates public policy cases on a pro bono basis, including successfully representing a group of African-American leaders in a Voting Rights Act claim against Miami-Dade County that resulted in requiring local governments to provide single-member districts.
