IF I WERE GOVERNOR: The first thing on my list would be continuing the focus on improving outcomes for Florida’s families. There is not one solution that makes the lives of every student, worker, or elderly citizen better. I would listen closely to the people and focus on finding solutions that optimize outcomes for all.
INSPIRING FLORIDIAN: Mary McLeod Bethune is an amazing example of how one’s attitude can help one overcome the most perilous of situations. She understood that access to a high-quality education was the key to unlocking everyone’s potential. Bethune prioritized self-sufficiency and self-determination. She made enemies into allies.
WHAT I’VE LEARNED: Be a lifelong learner. This lesson brings me success in both my personal and professional endeavors. Being a life-long learner makes me resilient. As a life-long learner, even failures bring me opportunities to learn, grow, and improve future outcomes.
