David R. Nelson

ADVISER TO THE PRESIDENT FOR BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH EVANGELISM, UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA, Gainesville

As senior vice president for health affairs at the University of Florida from 2019 to 2024, Nelson oversaw operations for all components of UF Health, with campuses in Gainesville and Jacksonville. He transitioned to his newly created post this year. Nelson is a gastroenterologist and transplant hepatologist and internationally known for his research and expertise in hepatitis C. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College and his residency at State University of New York Upstate Medical University and did his residency at the University of Massachusetts.
