DAVID VERINDER
PRESIDENT & CEO, SARASOTA MEMORIAL HEALTH CARE SYSTEM, SARASOTA
SMH has grown from a 32-bed facility to a comprehensive medical system ranking consistently among the nation’s best. The system consists of its flagship 839-bed tertiary hospital with a trauma center, rehabilitation pavilion and network of urgent care/outpatient centers. This fall, the system will open a second hospital in Venice and a nine-story oncology tower (part of a developing cancer institute) and will move forward with construction of a new behavioral health hospital. It is the county’s sole provider of obstetrics, neonatal intensive care, pediatrics and other essential services. Sarasota County’s largest employer, SMH has 7,000-plus employees, 1,400-plus medical staff members, 600-plus volunteers and more than a million patient visits annually.
