AdventHealth is a faith-based system of care serving more than 8 million patients through its network of 52 hospitals across nine states. Its Florida footprint spans more than 40 hospitals and ERs, and more than 59,000 team members. The organization's mission of "extending the healing ministry of Christ" and brand promise to help people feel whole guides the ways it serves communities, Shaw says. He started at AdventHealth as an intern in 1982 and became president and CEO in 2016.
EDUCATION: Southern Adventist University (BS), University of Central Florida (MBA)
IF I WERE GOVERNOR: Recognizing that health care consumers are increasingly defining health much more broadly than just physical health, the residents of Florida would benefit from more access to high-quality holistic health care and addressing social determinants of health issues that impact health equity and outcomes. These considerations will be even more critical as the state’s population continues to expand and age.

MENTOR: I’ve been blessed to work with three of the four AdventHealth CEOs who preceded me — Don Jernigan, Tom Werner, and Mardian Blair. They’ve impressed upon me principles in mission centrality, culture, teamwork, approaches in handling tough situations and relationships.
