DANIEL ROBINSON
FOUNDER & CEO, RED 6, ORLANDO
Red 6, founded in 2018, is the developer of an "Advanced Tactical Augmented Reality System" — "ATARS" — for combat pilots, layering synthetic images over the real world through a pilot’s visor as he’s flying. ATARS is the world’s first outdoor, airborne augmented reality training system. Robinson, a native of the U.K. and former fighter pilot, moved the company’s headquarters to Florida. In addition to securing tens of millions of dollars in investment, Red 6 has struck deals with Boeing and the British aerospace company BAE Systems.
EDUCATION: Georgetown University (MBA)
FIRST JOB: I was a milk man.
DREAM ALTERNATE CAREER: I’d be an astronaut.
SOMETHING SURPRISING: I’m deathly afraid of snakes.
NONPROFIT PASSION: I set up a foundation in the U.K. that helps prepare underprivileged children to take on the world, either through vocational training or higher education.
INDUSTRY TREND: The U.S. Air Force and its allies face a readiness crisis, and the way we train our pilots is fundamentally outdated and broken. Today’s pilots are faced with a lack of adequate training, insufficient aircraft availability to meet minimal training requirements and crippling resource constraints. Through ATARS, we’re aiming to change that.
