WILLIAM “BILL” NEWSOM
PRESIDENT & CEO, MITSUBISHI POWER AMERICAS, WINDERMERE
Newsom has more than three decades of experience in the power sector and has served in various roles at Mitsubishi Power for more than 20 years, rising from service sales manager up the ranks to become president and CEO of Mitsubishi Power Americas in 2021. Headquartered in Lake Mary, the company is the “power solutions brand” of Tokyo-based Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, designing, manufacturing and servicing power systems, including advanced class gas turbines, worldwide. Prior to working at Mitsubishi, Newsom held leadership positions at Westinghouse Electric, Siemens Westinghouse Power and Calpine. At Mitsubishi, he has launched growth initiatives focused on decarbonization, led the company to achieve top market shares in this part of the world for heavy-duty gas turbines and worked on developing one of the world’s largest green hydrogen storage projects underway in Delta, Utah. He earned his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Florida and completed the Advanced Management program at Harvard Business School. An avid golfer, Newsom says the sport also can provide a useful business advantage. “You can always kind of judge a person’s character you’re playing with because you’re spending four or five hours with them. If they’re cheating, or they’re throwing clubs, or they have a temper, you can kind of get to know that before you negotiate a contract with them,” he noted in a 2024 company podcast.
