JEA is a municipal utility providing electric and water utility services to more than 1 million customers in four Northeast Florida counties. JEA employs more than 2,200. In 1984, Cavey joined JEA, where she got her start as an engineer and then served for 32 years in various leadership roles. She retired in 2016, came back in 2020 as special assistant for external affairs, then retired again in 2021 before coming back in 2024 when the company’s board of directors tapped her to lead JEA as CEO.
