ROCKY EGUSQUIZA
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, LATIN GRAMMY CULTURAL FOUNDATION, MIAMI
The Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation is a charitable organization that supports music education and empowers global communities through scholarships, educational programs and grants that advance Latin music and celebrate its rich cultural heritage. Egusquiza has led the foundation for three years. “I’ve seen firsthand the power of music and its positive impact on individuals, well-being and society,” she says. “Our mission reflects my deep belief in expanding access and creating opportunities for aspiring creators, making a lasting and meaningful difference in communities around the world.”
EDUCATION: Miami Dade College (AA), University of Miami (BA)
FIRST JOB: An unpaid internship in government, along with volunteering for political campaigns. While I never received a job offer from the candidates I supported, another elected official noticed my work ethic, passion and energy — which led to a job working for a Florida state senator. It taught me a valuable lesson: you never know who’s watching or where your next opportunity might come from.
HOBBY: One of my favorite hobbies is oil painting and drawing — a creative outlet I enjoy sharing with my son, giving us meaningful time together to slow down, reflect and express ideas visually.
SOMETHING SURPRISING: In grade school, I was asked to sing silently in the choir. I thought I could sing — I was just too loud and too passionate. Turns out, I couldn’t sing at all. It was crushing at the time, but it led me to a calling behind the scenes: supporting talented young people with musical aptitude and big dreams. I may not be a singer, but I’m one heck of a backup — helping kids turn their passion into their superpower through music and the arts. Turns out, being “too loud and too passionate” was exactly right.
DREAM ALTERNATE CAREER
“I’d be a travel show host exploring global music and cuisine.”
