ANDREW KOENIG
CEO, CITY FURNITURE, TAMARAC
With about 2,500 employees, family-owned CITY Furniture operates nearly 40 Florida showrooms, four distribution centers, two Florida headquarters and a manufacturing plant in Mississippi. Koenig has worked there for 20 years, six years as president and CEO. “My proudest influence is spearheading CITY’s 5% Giving Pledge and 2040 Green Promise,” he says. “Our team has mobilized Florida businesses to align profit with purpose by chairing charity walks and galas, launching an annual Green Summit, having our senior leaders participate on various boards across the state and earning recognition for America’s greenest private fleet.”
EDUCATION: Elon University (BS), Nova Southeastern University (MBA)
FIRST JOB: I started as a receiving associate, unloading containers in our operations department.
SOMETHING SURPRISING: In college, I read a book about Toyota and fell in love with Toyota. … I’ve been blessed to learn from so many great leaders about the Toyota Way, and those learnings have helped me shape our leadership philosophy at CITY Furniture. Now, we are the only retailer in the world (that I’m aware of) that is partnered with Toyota on our lean journey of continuous improvement.
NONPROFIT PASSION: I’m chair of the American Cancer Society’s CEOs Against Cancer for the state of Florida. This is my ultimate passion because we are working to eliminate cancer in this world.
INDUSTRY TREND: I believe digital transformation is the most notable trend for now and the past several years in the home furnishings industry.
HOBBY: I love golf.
