JORGE HERRERA

CEO, BOARD MEMBER & CO-FOUNDER, NOPETRO ENERGY, MIAMI

Founded in 2008 and with 45 employees, Nopetro designs, finances, builds, owns and operates renewable natural gas production and distribution facilities to supply heavy-duty transportation. Says Herrera, “Nopetro's mission greatly benefits society through our focus on capturing otherwise harmful gases from escaping into the atmosphere while also delivering a locally produced energy source.”

EDUCATION: University of Florida (BA), Emory University (JD)

INDUSTRY TREND: Since 2008, we have witnessed firsthand the proliferation of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a superior alternative to diesel in the transit and refuse industries. Fewer than 5% of those fleets fueled with CNG back then, and today it is about 40% of the market. Reason being — CNG provides 50% fuel savings and 33% less greenhouse gas emissions, while delivering the same performance as diesel.

IN MY DOWNTIME: I enjoy playing basketball, going to the beach and relaxing at a jazz bar with my wife.

FOOD FIX: My favorite meal is a nicely cooked wagyu filet with some thin, crispy french fries and a glass of Cabernet.
