MARIO TRUEBA

CHAIRMAN, SOUTH FLORIDA, FIRST HORIZON, MIAMI

Trueba has been at the super regional bank and its predecessors for 36 years. A graduate of St. Thomas University — back when it was Biscayne College — and a holder of an MBA from Florida International University, Trueba’s first job was coaching high school basketball and baseball. Coaching is “very similar,” he says, to what he does now. His service has included Leadership Florida and the boards of St. Thomas, the Orange Bowl Committee, Florida TaxWatch, Miami Children’s Hospital and the Family Resource Center. “Most folks don’t know that I did considerable post-graduate course work in psychology before I transferred to the MBA program,” he says. “My psychology course work, coupled with my undergrad liberal arts background, has helped me every day as a banker.” His credo: “What I always try to do is live and act in a way that can be modeled.”
