John R. Wood created his namesake real estate firm in 1958, when Naples was still a sleepy fishing village. Phil Wood — John’s only child — joined the family firm in 1976 as its ninth agent. He ascended to president in 1986 and then CEO in 2010. Meanwhile, the company amassed more than 750 agents and staff across Southwest Florida. John R. Wood Properties now reigns No. 1 in Southwest Florida for units sold and sales volume, its 20-plus offices collectively selling thousands of homes above the million-dollar mark. It also claims to be the oldest active real estate brokerage in the region. Phil Wood and his two daughters now share company ownership. He remains an active philanthropist, contributing to more than 100 charitable organizations in 2021 alone.
