JENNIFER O’FLANNERY ANDERSON
PRESIDENT & CEO, COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF BROWARD, FORT LAUDERDALE
The Community Foundation of Broward partners with individuals, families and organizations to create personalized charitable funds that deliver game-changing impact. With 571 funds and $300 million in assets, it’s awarded over $200 million in grants. Anderson says she is “especially proud of launching the Broward Center for Nonprofit Excellence to advance leadership, sustainability and long-term impact across our nonprofit community.”
EDUCATION: Florida State University (BA), University of South Florida (MA), Florida Atlantic University (Ph.D.)
FIRST JOB: My first job, beyond babysitting, was serving on the Teen Board for Robinson’s department store in Tampa.
DREAM ALTERNATE CAREER: This work feels like my true calling. But if I had to choose, I’d be a tour guide in Italy or work at a botanical garden surrounded by orchids, my favorite flower.
SOMETHING SURPRISING: I’m a preacher’s kid. My father was a minister and my mother was a special education teacher. Through them, I developed a deep sense of compassion and a commitment to service. I’ve also gone diving with sharks in the Bahamas, which was as exhilarating as it was unforgettable!
HOBBY: Music was a big part of my childhood. I played piano and sang for years. Recently, my husband gave me a keyboard for Christmas, and I’ve started lessons again. I’m rediscovering the joy of music, one note at a time.
