KATHLEEN CANNON
PRESIDENT & CEO, UNITED WAY OF BROWARD COUNTY, FORT LAUDERDALE
The United Way of Broward County creates, operates and funds more than 100 vital programs and services while operating its own life-changing initiatives as well. “Over the past 13 years, I and more than 90 employees, dozens of community partners and thousands of volunteers and donors have united together to create long-lasting positive change for those in need in Broward County,” Cannon says. She also sits on the board of directors for the Federal Reserve Miami Branch, lending her “time, talent and social work lens to support this important endeavor and help inform monetary policy decisions that benefit all Americans.”
EDUCATION: Moravian College (BA), Florida International University (MS)
FIRST JOB: The day I turned 15 years old, I went to our Main Street and applied for a clerk position at a five and dime store called County Discount. I also sold Avon under an alliance because I was too young, but I sold to all my teachers.
DREAM ALTERNATE CAREER: A sportscaster or a pro racecar driver!
SOMETHING SURPRISING: I appear to most people to be an extrovert, and everyone is surprised to know that I am an ambivert (which is a mix), and as I get older it gets closer to an introvert. I gain my strength and rejuvenate by being by myself and love being alone.
