LESLIE MILLER SAIONTZ
FOUNDER, ACHIEVE MIAMI, MIAMI
Founded by Saiontz in 2015, Achieve Miami offers elementary literacy and music programs, high school college and career readiness programs, a citywide service-learning club spanning 60-plus high schools, and K-12 summer programs. It also acts as an educational think tank and recently launched the Teacher Accelerator Program to combat the teacher shortage by recruiting, training and mentoring aspiring educators.
FIRST JOB: I started as a waitress in high school, where I quickly learned to listen closely, juggle competing needs and stay calm under pressure.
DREAM ALTERNATE CAREER: I’d be an architect. I’ve always been drawn to the idea of dreaming big, designing with intention and building something lasting, especially when it serves a greater purpose for a community.
SOMETHING SURPRISING: I have perfect pitch, which means I can hear a song and play it back on the piano without sheet music.
HOBBY: Gardening is my creative escape from my otherwise busy life. (Did I mention I also have 15 grandchildren?) I love designing outdoor spaces and watching them come to life over time.
