FOUNDER & CEO, LAUREN’S KIDS, HOLLYWOOD

Survivor-turned-advocate and former Florida Senate Democratic Leader Book has dedicated her life to protecting children and empowering survivors of sexual abuse. As CEO of Lauren’s Kids, the nonprofit she founded in 2007, she’s transformed abuse prevention through education, awareness and advocacy. In the Legislature, she strengthened laws to protect children, increase penalties for abusers and expand support for victims.

EDUCATION: University of Miami (BA, MS)

FIRST JOB: A classroom teacher at Henry S. West Laboratory School in Miami.

DREAM ALTERNATE CAREER: I would serve as a global ambassador for child safety with UNICEF to protect children from abuse, exploitation and trafficking worldwide. Every child deserves to grow up safe and free from harm.

SOMETHING SURPRISING: Though I speak out every day as an advocate and educator, most people are surprised to learn I’m actually an introvert. My greatest joy comes from quiet moments at home with my children — reading books, watching movies, and simply being together.
