SABEEN PERWAIZ
PRESIDENT & CEO, FLORIDA NONPROFIT ALLIANCE, JACKSONVILLE
Perwaiz has been president and CEO of the Florida Nonprofit Alliance for nine years. FNA’s work involves advocacy, education, research and communications to protect and foster mission delivery for more than 22,000 nonprofit groups in Florida.
EDUCATION: City College of New York (BS), University of Birmingham, UK (MSc)
FIRST JOB: My first job was at 15 for my local public library in Queens, N.Y. I helped seniors access and use the computer lab.
DREAM ALTERNATE CAREER: I would love to be a travel consultant who helps people plan their dream trips.
MENTEE IMPACT: I mentored several young women in the nonprofit sector as they transitioned into motherhood. I shared policies and best practices so they could continue doing what they love while being a mom. Through their advocacy, some were able to obtain paid leave, and others were able to obtain a dedicated space to pump. This might seem straightforward, but FMLA is only required for organizations with 50 or more team members, and most nonprofits are under that threshold.
