G. MARK O’BRYANT
PRESIDENT & CEO, TALLAHASSEE MEMORIAL HEALTHCARE, TALLAHASSEE
O’Bryant has served as CEO of TMH, the Tallahassee region’s safety-net health care system, since 2003. Working with FSU, TMH is an emerging academic health center that is actively expanding its research and educational platforms. Under O’Bryant’s leadership, TMH also is expanding in partnership with FSU and the St. Joe Co. in the Panama City market under the FSU Health banner. TMH has more than 6,000 employees.
EDUCATION: Brigham Young University (BS), Georgia State University (MBA, MHA)
FIRST JOB: I worked at Renner’s Smoked Pig, a true barbeque joint run by the infamous and very tough Thelma Renner. My time was split between washing dishes and providing “curb service,” a precursor to drive-thru dining.
DREAM ALTERNATE CAREER: I would teach contemporary American literature at the college level and write fiction in the air of John Steinbeck.
SOMETHING SURPRISING: I run, mainly to manage stress and to reenergize my introverted nature. I have participated in nine marathons and even more half-marathons. Last year, my Fitbit measured 3,122 miles. That was an average of 8.53 miles per day. They were not all fast miles, but miles, nonetheless.
