ORLANDO ROCHE
MARKET PRESIDENT, FIRST HORIZON BANK, MIAMI
First Horizon is a full-service publicly traded bank that was founded in 1864. It has about $85 billion in assets. ”What makes us unique is that we have most of the capabilities and services that large banks have, but we deliver them in a very market-and-client-centric fashion,” Roche says, adding: “It is rewarding to have worked with many multigenerational families and played a small role in their overall success.” He's been involved on the foundation board of Florida International University and the advisory board of Belen Jesuit Prep for some time. He also serves on the board of West Baptist Hospital, Camillus House and Orange Bowl Committee.
EDUCATION: Florida International University (BS)
DREAM ALTERNATE CAREER: Architecture. I enjoy the creativity in design, and I also believe that creativity has played a great role in my banking success.
SOMETHING SURPRISING: A lot of people know that I loved sports and played basketball, but not a lot of people know that I also excelled in chess when I was younger. I was also born in Cuba and came to this wonderful country when I was 13 years old.
INDUSTRY TREND: Technology is moving very rapidly and is playing a critical role in banking. Quality service is the thing that differentiates us from other banks, but technology plays a critical role in servicing our clients and will play an even larger role in the future. This is why we are investing significant dollars in technology. I have also seen Miami grow into one of the top global cities in the world.
