HUGH WILLIAM “BILL” PERRY
CEO AND MANAGING SHAREHOLDER, GUNSTER, WEST PALM BEACH
Founded in 1925, Gunster is a full-service law firm that represents some of the largest companies and wealthiest individuals in Florida. “As we continue our tradition of community service in our 100th year, we have pledged to do at least 1,925 volunteer hours across the state,” says Perry, who has been CEO and managing partner for the last 17 years. Through his work with the Economic Council of Palm Beach County, Perry helped advocate for and pass the Infrastructure Sales Tax that has raised $2.7 billion for local infrastructure, resulting in improved schools, parks and roads.
EDUCATION: University of Pennsylvania (BA), University of Florida (JD)
FIRST JOB: My first job was delivering newspapers — the Manchester Herald and the Hartford Courant — from the age of 10 until I was 16. At 16, I became a pharmacist’s assistant, which gave me early exposure to the health care field.
DREAM ALTERNATE CAREER: If I could choose an alternate career, I would have pursued medicine.
PASSION PROJECT: Outside of work, I’m passionate about flying. Being a private pilot allows me to use a different part of my brain and be fully present in the moment. It’s both challenging and relaxing — focusing on the details of flight is a welcome break from the demands of my career. Aside from flying, I also enjoy running, golfing and hiking.
