EDUCATION: Florida State University (BS, JD)
IF I WERE GOVERNOR: I would double down on keeping our best and brightest living, studying, thriving, and contributing to the Sunshine State. This would include adding a textbook stipend for need-based students, and other scholastic incentives. Currently, we are still losing too many future leaders, scholars, and professionals to other states.
READING/LISTENING: The Sum of Us, by Heather McGhee (and, of course, the Sean Pittman Show Podcast)
INSPIRING FLORIDIAN: Shirley Chisholm was ‘the first’ of many eye-opening moments in my life. Namely, she was the first Black woman to serve in Congress and the first Black person to run for U.S. president with a major party. I am inspired by her courage, audacity, and willingness to give her whole self to represent the notion that people of color could serve in the highest positions in the boardroom, in the courthouse, and in government.
