Trivest was going on eight years old when Templeton joined the private equity firm in 1989. The Miami-headquartered firm invests exclusively in founder and family-owned businesses. It has a presence in Charlotte, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, New York and Toronto. Under Templeton, the firm has gone from a single fund to a leading investor in the founder/family-owned sector with four funds, multiple business units, more than 100 employees and more than $6 billion in assets under management. He’s led more than 50 acquisitions and exits. A Stetson University grad (both bachelor’s, magna cum laude, and MBA), he’s chairman of the executive committee board of Junior Achievement of Greater Miami. “Persistence beats resistance,” Templeton says.
