JOSE MAS
CEO, MasTec, Coral Gables
The Mas brothers started in infrastructure contracting at the feet of their legendary father, Jorge Mas Canosa, Cuban exile leader and entrepreneur, and have gone on to be company builders in their own right. Jose, 49, also a UM grad, became CEO in 2007 and diversified the company beyond communications into pipeline, electric transmission, renewable energy and wireless infrastructure construction. He’s a past winner of Ernest & Young’s National Entrepreneur of the Year award, is a director of his family’s foundation and has advised the U.S. Department of Commerce on minority business enterprises. In May, the Mas family donated $5 million to Florida International University to support construction of CasaCuba, the university’s Cuban culture galleries, venue and study center.
