TODD POWELL
VICE PRESIDENT/REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT, WEYERHAEUSER, GAINESVILLE
Weyerhaeuser is one of the world’s largest private owners of timberlands with approximately 10.4 million acres in the United States and 9,400 employees. Powell has led all real estate development and mitigation services activities across the company’s U.S. portfolio since 2016. In Florida, the company is in the process of developing multiple large-scale mixed-use projects and is a major player in land conservation. Powell has served for many years (including as chair) of the Florida Chamber Foundation Board of Trustees. “This is an apolitical group of very diverse leaders looking at the long-term direction of Florida through the Florida 2030 Blueprint strategic plan,” he says. “My number one takeaway — our state’s future needs to be determined by its people and not political parties.”
EDUCATION: Bowling Green State University (BS), University of Florida (MBA)
FIRST JOB: My first job was a staff accountant at EY — I started in the middle of busy season and worked some crazy hours.
DREAM ALTERNATE CAREER: School teacher — the most important job in the world. My parents were both teachers. The impact they had on others was immeasurable
SOMETHING SURPRISING: I played college football at Bowling Green as a placekicker — my longest college field goal was 47 yards. The last time I kicked a football was the final kickoff of our bowl game in California against Fresno State.
HOBBY: I am a fitness fanatic and am part-owner of a CrossFit gym in Gainesville. For me, working out is critical for my mental health — some of my most creative ideas come after my hardest workouts.
