Real Estate
Craig Sher
FOUNDER & CHAIRMAN, BACKSTREETS CAPITAL, ST. PETERSBURG
After retiring as executive chairman of the Sembler Co. in 2008, Sher formed Backstreets Capital, a family office of the Sher and Conroy families, where real estate and related ventures are the core of its investments. It seeks capital protection and risk-adjusted returns through a commitment to long-term partnerships. “For over 40 years, my partners and associates have developed over 300 projects in more than 100 communities,” Sher says. “I would hope that each one had a positive economic and aesthetic impact on each neighborhood.”
EDUCATION: Northwestern University (BS, MS, MBA)
IF I WERE GOVERNOR: Restoring women’s right to choose with reasonable limitations. At the same time, I would attempt to convey to all Floridians that we are all created equal and we are in this thing, called ‘life,’ together.
READING: I read/scan several newspapers a day from The Wall Street Journal to the New York Times to the Tampa Bay Times. I am on zero social media and find it to be an incredible waste of time.
MY MENTOR: The late Ambassador Mel Sembler was my mentor, my boss, my confidante, my partner and my friend. Everything he did was done with class, integrity, honesty and loyalty.
