Real Estate
James D. Tate
PRESIDENT & CEO, TATE CAPITAL, MIAMI
For over 38 years, Tate Capital and its affiliated companies have owned, managed, and developed billions of dollars in real estate. Each of its companies has a similar philosophy of getting engaged within the markets they develop and reinvesting through philanthropy and public involvement. Tate companies have over 85 employees of which more than 35 are in Florida. “We have shown our competitors, by example, the importance of giving back through development,” Tate says. “For example, we established five trust funds in Fort Lauderdale through our Bahia Mar development approvals. Each of the trust funds will be funded through a sharing arrangement from initial sales and future sales.”
EDUCATION: University of Florida (BA)
IF I WERE GOVERNOR: Strong support for a more common-sense abortion law with a reasonable outside date (15-16 weeks to make a difficult decision) whereby the women can decide what is best for them, not government.
READING: Start-up Nation
MENTOR: Obviously, my father Stanley G. Tate (founder and author of the Florida prepaid college program). He has taught me so many incredible life and business lessons. Here are two of my favorites: 1. Money does not define success. A good healthy lifestyle, a beautiful loving family, faith that there is a G-d, and being content with who you are and what you have. 2. Keep your mouth shut and ears open and don’t let others know what you don’t know.
